The first controversy of IPL 2019 season is here, with Kings XI Punjab captain, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's mankading to dismiss the settled Jos Butler. During the match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, the Punjab bowlers were unable to dismiss Jos Butler, who had been playing an explosive knock.
That was when skipper Ashwin decided to use his trick, as he dismissed Butler by mankading, as Butler was moving out of the crease. While the usual practice has been to issue warnings once or twice to the batsman before appealing for wicket after the batsman repeats crossing the crease, despite being within rules, this act of Ashwin has been seen unfair.
Australian former spinner and Rajasthan Royals brand ambassador Shane Warne has lashed out at Ashwin with a series of tweets, where he mentions he has disappointed with Ashwin as a captain and as a person, Ashwin had no intentions of delivering the ball and it must be called a dead ball. He also called Ashwin's mankading a low and disgraceful act and added that he was disappointed as he had earlier thought Ashwin had integrity and class, and demanded BCCI to do something against this act.
As Captain of your side - you set the standard of the way the team wants to play & what the team stands for ! Why do such a disgraceful & low act like that tonight ? You must live with yourself & FYI - it’s to late to say sorry Mr Ashwin. You will be remembered for that low act https://t.co/jGif2TOnjI
