The four-month-old spat between actor Shane Nigam and the Producers Association is likely to come to an end soon. As per the latest update, an executive committee meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) was held on Tuesday to resolve the issue. At the meeting, Shane Nigam had agreed to pay compensation of Rs 32 lakhs to the producers of his stalled films - 'Veyil' and 'Qurbani'. The compensation amount will be raised from Shane’s remuneration. An official confirmation of the amount is not made yet.
Eleven members of A.M.M.A, including president Mohanlal and secretary Edavela Babu, attended the executive meeting held in Kochi. AMMA president Mohanlal said that the Producer's Association has been informed about the same. The decision regarding lifting the actor's ban will be taken by the Producers' Association after a meeting with AMMA representatives on Wednesday.
Shane stirred up a controversy last year after the actor posted a Facebook video, alleging that he was facing death threats from 'Veyil' producer Joby George. Followed by this, Joby held a press meet and accused the actor of breaching the movie agreement by changing his appearance for another movie 'Qurbani' while in the middle of shooting 'Veyil'. Though the issue was resolved after the intervention of AMMA, the movie's shoot resumed.
Later, the actor accused the 'Veyil' team of giving him emotional stress and delaying the shoot. As a sign of protest against the producer, the actor shaved off his hair. All his upcoming 3 films were scrapped due to this, and the producers joined hands against him and demanded to pay off their loss.
A month ago, Kerala Film Producers’ Association had asked for a compensation of ₹1 crore from the actor. But A.M.M.A has taken a firm stand that such a huge amount would not be given.
