Shambhu a film which was in the making for long has another campus based subject. After a long time Vijayakumar dons the title role, the other major flicks  with him in the lead being Kulapathy and Leader. Shambhu tells us the story of young Brahmin student Shambu Mahadevan who is the son of noted Tamil writer Shankari Mahadevan.

Shankari, in her teens falls in love with Mahadevan and marries him. Bad fate struck as, Mahadevan passes away a few years after the marriage, leaving Shankari and their two children, Shambhu and Ranjini. Shankari, who is also a college lecturer, gets transferred to Palakkad and settles in a small rented house with her children. By that time Shambhu has grown up into a college-going youth. Shankari wants her son to be an IAS officer and Shambhu too concentrates on his studies. He has a few friends in the college where life is fast and furious. But he accidentally becomes a victim of campus politics and is jailed for an offence, charged with a murder he never committed. All he is left to do is to prove himself innocent. How he manages to come out is the ploy of Shambu, in which Vijayakumar plays the title role as Shambhu.

Produced under the banner of DTS Productions by Rajneesh and Ashraf Bedy, Shambhu is directed by KB Madhu, who had earlier directed Chitrashalabham, Deepasthambham Mahascharyam, Vinayapoorvam Vidyadharan and Deepangal Sakshi. Geetha appear in the role of Shankari Mahadevan. Sindoori who caught attention through her performance in the Tamil hit Boys makes her Malayalam debut in Shambhu, which also sees the return of Babu Antony as a villain after a long time. Also in the cast are Karthika, Riyaz Khan, Rajan P Dev, Machan Verghese, Santhosh Pali, Beena, and Mini. The film has music by Jassie Gift, cinematography by Jibu Jacob and editing by Don Max. The film's music by Jassie Gift which was released month's ago was in the charts. Shambhu which is almost ready for release will grace the theatres soon after Onam.
