Shahid Kapoor is one of the most successful and bankable Bollywood stars working today. Throughout the years, his career has gone through several phases. While he used to play chocolate boy characters initially, most of his characters these days are rough around the edges. His portrayal of a self destructive young man in 'Kabir Singh' was just phenomenal. The latest reports about Shahid suggest that he has been casted in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's upcoming period drama.

Shahid is approached to play the titular role in the film based on the mythological warrior, Karna. Amidst black and white philosophical tones of Mahabharat, Karna's character was a rather grey one. His actions, immoral however, were justified in their own way. Shahid seems like the perfect pick since he can easily portray the complexity of the character. Also he is not new to period dramas. He gave a stunning performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavat'.

The project will be helmed by Ronnie Screwvala which adds to the excitement.
