Whirlwind year for Shah Rukh Khan for promotions of his third film, "Dunki." At a recent event in Dubai, the superstar gave insight into the intriguing title as well as what one could expect from it.
“Dunki” is not just a word; it's a symbol. Shah Rukh cleared out, "It's really about those risky journeys people take to find a better life abroad, a path called 'Donkey Travels' used by many across the globe, including from our own country." Though he emphasizes the conflicting emotions, the longing for opportunity abroad, and the constant pull of home,.
"It's about leaving, searching for a future, yet always holding your roots close," Shah Rukh shared. "Wherever you live, there's a longing to return, find peace, and rest on the familiar soil." And that's what "Dunki" is all about, he says, a story of homecoming, of the heart's loyalty, and of its unfailing connection with its own native land.
For the ignorant, "Dunki" means "donkey" in Punjabi, though it is pronounced differently by locals. Rajkumar Hirani directed the film, apparently taking a dig deeper into the dangerous reality of "Donkey Flights," which is the term used for illegal means many undertake to reach the so-called greener pastures like the US, UK, and Canada.
Shah Rukh, Taapsee Pannu, Anil Grover, Boman Irani, and Vicky Kaushal are supporting the ensembles of "Dunki." It's the journey across countries that offers not just thrills but a heart-touching discovery of the human spirit's eternal craving for home.
