Malayalam film industry is dominated by senior artistes though a lot of youngsters tried their luck in the recent past. Had the latter shown some attention to the scripts, they would have emerged successful, says director Shafi Macartin, who has given blockbuster hits like Dileep-starrer Kalyanaraman and Mamooty's Thommanum Makkalum.

Currently busy with the Tamil remake of Thommanum Makkalum featuring Vikram in the lead role, Shafi says, 'in Malayalam, the movie was completed in a small budget and ran for just 14 reels. In contrast,in Tamil it is more colorful and a couple of more songs have been accommodated and shot in an extravagant manner'.

Soon after completing Maja, Shafi will be back to Malayalam to direct Dileep for his next after Fast Track, which again would be a comedy quite typical to Kalyanaraman.

Among other plans, Shafi is gearing up to do asequel to Thammanum Makkalum in a different way.

Instead of part II of Thommanum Makkalum, he intends to direct a part prior to the original, featuring the same star cast (a kind of prequel).

The Malayalam film industry is very healthy today and a couple of young and talented directors like Roshan Andrews and Blessy are doing wonders, he observed.
