'Shaakuntalam' hit the screens last Friday. By the end of that day, it ran its course at the box-office. Saturday and Sunday were really awful in terms of collections, if Friday was already not humiliating enough.
Starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the titular role and Dev Mohan as Dushyanta, the Gunasekhar directorial is expected to gross a single-digit number (that is, less than Rs 9 Cr) in its entire lifetime at the BO across languages. The Telugu States have given the film a measly Rs. 2.20 Cr (Share) despite the hype and hoopla.
In Hindi and Tamil, the film couldn't turn anybody's head.
The film's budget is pegged at something like Rs 40-60 Cr, including the heavy 3D costs. Produced by Neelima Guna (Gunasekhar's daughter), the film's non-theatrical revenues are not public.
Presented by Dil Raju, 'Shaakuntalam' co-stars Jisshu Sengupta as Indra and Kabir Duhan Singh as the antagonist, something those who watched the movie are yet to come to terms with.
