For many months now, it has been speculated that AM Ratnam is going to produce a sequel to Bharateeyudu. What is unprecedented is that, this film has been speculated to bring about the coming together of the genius Kamal Haasan and finest director Shankar. What's surprising is that, the producer has reportedly confirmed this.

Bharateeyudu was released in the year 1996. As vigilante films go, this was a non-pareil, becoming one of the greatest movies in Kamal's illustrious career. It starred Kamal in the role of a stylish grandpa out to clean up the system. It was Shankar who, like a true visionary director, thought of leaving the story open to further movement by introducing that immortal Indian, who in the climax says, "Bharateeyudu ki chave ledhu ra", meaning 'Indian is immortal'. It was a classic moment indeed.

This sequel to the film is said to enter pre-production stageafter Shankar wraps up his magnum opus, 2.0 with Rajinikanth.
