Popular Tamil pop singer and actor A.E.Manoharan aka Ceylon Manohar (73) has passed away in Chennai last night due to age related ailments. The cremation would happen today at Chennai.
As a Sri Lankan native Manohar acted as the lead actor in 'Pasa Nila' the first Tamil movie produced in Jaffna in the year 1964. He started his career as a singer in the year 1970 with the popular band Great Friends Enterprises. In early 70s he used to sing Tamil and Sinhala pop songs in music concerts. 'Suraangani; and 'Chinna Maamiye' are extremely popular among the youngsters and they attained a cult status as they were repeatedly played in radio stations in Tamil Nadu as well. The songs have transcended generations. In 1973 he was awarded the Pop Chakravarthi title by the then Tamil Minister Chelliah Kumarasuria.
Manohar has acted in more than 260 films in five languages, including Tamil films such as Madhavan-Pooja starrer 'Jay Jay'.
