'Ponniyin Selvan', one of the Tamil cinema's most awaited magnum opus movie, is directed by Mani Ratnam and jointly produced by Subaskaran's Lyca and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies. The film is gearing up for a grand release on September 30 and the promotional works are going on in full swing.
'Ponniyin Selvan' film franchise, being made on a massive scale in two parts, is the official adaptation of author Kalki's epic novel of the same name. The story revolves around the civil war and conspiracy within the Chola Dynasty for the kingdom's throne. It talks about the glory of Raja Raja Chola, Aadhitha Karikala and Vanthiyathevan.
Meanwhile, Karthi is taking part in interviews with Youtube channels ahead of 'Ponniyin Selvan' release. Ace director Selvaraghavan joined Karthi in a recent interview through a video call. Selvaraghavan directed Karthi in the 2010 historical fiction movie 'Aayirathil Oruvan' which did poor at the box office and acclaimed as a cult classic later.
In the interview, Selvaraghavan revealed that the Muthu character from Aayirathil Oruvan (played by Karthi) is inspired by the Vanthiyathevan Vallavarayan role in Ponniyin Selvan. It is worth mentioning that Karthi has played Vanthiyathevan in Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan' now. Selvaraghavan is also planning to direct 'Aayirathil Oruvan 2' with Dhanush. He asked Karthi whether he would act in 'AO2' for which Karthi replied that he would think about it later.
