Recently, the 32-year-old "Only Murders in the Building" star answered a TikHub video asking whether she had cosmetic work done. The now-deleted clip included plastic surgery clinic physician assistant Marissa Barrionuevo, who is content creator. Barrionuevo stated that lupus, Gomez's illness, shouldn't be confused with cosmetic improvements and spoke about how it may influence appearance.

Gomez responded in the comments expressing her irritation. " Honestly I detest this," she wrote. "A flare-up sent me on steroids. I am Botoxed. That is exactly what it is. Give me time alone.

Later, Barrionuevo uploaded a video apologizing to Gomez, noting that her past work might have offended the singer. "I love you," Barrionuevo stated, stressing that she never meant to bring about trouble. She also mentioned that their bad effect had caused her to cease creating such films.
