Selena Gomez's reaction after learning that Chris Brown had been nominated at MTVâs VMAs has been shared on social media. Gomez took the Best Afrobeats award for her feature on Remaâs hit Calm Down, while Brown had been nominated under the Best R&B category for his feature on Chlöeâs How Does It Feel, ultimately losing to SZAâs Shirt.
As the nominees for Best R&B were read out, cameras caught Gomez making a kissing face after Brownâs name was called. The Independent has sought comment from Gomezâs representatives.
Controversy was stirred up by Chris Brownâs song with Chloe Bailey for the VMA-nominated track, given his past history. Back in 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, and he has faced subsequent accusations of assault, which he denies. Recent footage from his concerts showing him holding female fans by the neck during an onstage routine has led to public backlash.
Elsewhere at the VMAs, there was also an apparent argument between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake. But sources quickly clarified that there was no actual fight. Timberlake greeted Megan, and she playfully responded, saying, No, no, this doesnât count. We've got to meet properly. The exchange was described as cute and friendly.
