Industrialist Sekar Reddy has moved the High Court of Madras requesting it to relieve him off the cases filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Responding to his petition, the Court has asked the ED to file a reply on the issue within a fortnight’s time.
Reddy’s residence, offices and other establishments were raided in December last year (a couple of days after the demise of ‘Puratchithalaivi’ J. Jayalalithaa) were raided by taxmen resulting in cash to the tune of a few hundred crores. What was baffling was that the currency unearthed (Rs.33.20 crores) was the new currency put in circulation only a couple of months in the post-demonetization phase.
Late last year, the CBI arrested Sekar Reddy, his partners Srinivasulu, Prem Kumar, Dindigul Rathinam, Pudukkottai Ramachandran and Kolkata-based industrialist Parasmal Lodha. ED filed cases against Reddy and three of its partners.
Reddy and his partners have now moved the High Court of Madras requesting it to dispose the cases filed against them by ED. Taking up their petition, the Court directed the ED to respond to their plea in a fortnight’s time.
