Actor Kamal Haasan after casting his votes in the Nadigar Sangam elections held yesterday in Chennai said that he wishes to see the South India Nadigar Sangam becoming the Indian Nadigar Sangam.
The Ulaganayagan's statement with a nationalistic approach came at a time when the calls to change the name of the Sangam as Tamil Nadu Nadigar Sangam were revived with a new vigour. Superstar Rajinikanth had also said that changing the Sangam's name as Tamil Nadu Nadigargal Sangam should be the first priority of whoever wins the elections.
Director Seeman well-known for his Tamil ethnic sentiments and bold statements has welcomed Rajini's comment and criticised Kamal for his stand on the name change issue. Seeman said that the association of Tamil artists can be changed as India Nadigar Sangam if the artists association in other states like Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra also become India Nadigar Sangam.
Actor-director T.Rajendhar also criticised Kamal Haasan's view asking whether Hindi actors were a part of South Indian Nadigar Sangam.
