Seema Ghulam Haider, a 27-year-old Pakistani Muslim woman, and Sachin Meena, a 22-year-old Hindu Indian man, met online while playing the popular online game PUBG: Battlegrounds in 2019. Despite the cultural and religious barriers between them, the two developed a romantic relationship.
Seema Ghulam Haider was already married, and her husband had moved to Saudi Arabia for work around the time she started her relationship with Sachin Meena. The couple faced challenges due to their different cultural backgrounds and the historical tensions between India and Pakistan.
In March, Haider met Meena in person for the first time in Nepal, without her children. They made plans for Haider to travel to India in May with her four children, all under seven years old, . They allegedly sold their property and devised a route to India by searching on YouTube. However, they were caught by authorities after seeking advice from a lawyer regarding Haider's residency and marriage.
Haider, her children, Meena, and his father were arrested on charges of illegally entering India and sheltering Haider without a visa. However, a local court granted bail to Haider and her children, stating that she had not crossed the border with any wrong intention. Meena and his father were also granted bail.
Currently, the couple is reportedly seeking help from the Indian government to facilitate their marriage according to a Business Insider and NYT reports.
