Actor Sunny Deol was Sunday provided with security following blasts at two Delhi theatres that were screening his controversial movie "Jo Bole So Nihaal", officials here said.

The movie, starring Deol as a Sikh policeman, had generated protests by Sikh leaders, who said the title was to be used only as a war cry or inside a gurudwara.

"Security has been provided to Deol and a high alert sounded at all cinemas across the country screening the movie," a senior security official said.

According to officials, the blasts were a "test case" aimed at scaring away prospective viewers and therefore a local event.

"We will get the people behind the blasts," the security official said.

Distributors had voluntarily withdrawn the movie from cinemas in Punjab following the protests last week.

The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the governing body of Sikh shrines, had demanded that the movie's title be changed and the title song withdrawn.

The SGPC had threatened to launch a protest if its demands were not met. A special committee of the SGPC had watched the movie and reportedly demanded the deletion of some scenes.
