The Narendra Modi government's Agnipath Scheme, which has been described as much-needed reform, has not gone down well with youths. Yesterday, Bihar was witness to violent anti-Agnipath protests, with train bogeys set on fire. Today, it was the turn of the Secunderabad railways station to bear the brunt of senseless arsoning.
As per media reports, police firing resulted in one person getting injured. During the protests, at least six people were injured. They are being treated at a government hospital nearby.
While some Telugu media houses have said that one person is dead, nothing has been confirmed officially at the time of writing this report.
Meanwhile, the railways has cancelled several trains and MMTS due to the violence at the Secunderabad railway station. The issue is coming to occupy national importance.
Senior journalist Smita Prakash, putting out exclusive pics of the protests, wrote, "Very distressing visuals of railway coaches set on fire by Agnipath protesting vandals, no fire extinguishers at the platform, it is so sad to see railway employees trying to douse the fire with mineral water from the kiosks. Secunderabad railway station, it is an intercity junction."
