World cinema has lost another member as popular horror movie series 'Child's Play' cowriter and director of the second film in the franchise John Lafia has passed away apparently by suicide. The reason why the 63 year old took the extreme step is unknown but the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has confirmed that he took his own life on April 29th. He is survived by his children Tess and Kane and former wife Beverley.
Don Mancini the creator and writer of the 'Child's Play' franchise stated "We're devastated to hear of the passing of our friend John Lafia. He was a crucial part of the ‘Chucky' family from the very beginning, He co-wrote the original Child's Playscript along with director Tom Holland and myself, and John directed ‘Child's Play 2', -- the consensus favorite film among ‘Chucky' fans. John was an incredibly generous artist. He let me tag along with him to every meeting, and shadow him on set; he taught me more about filmmaking during the production of that movie than several semesters in film school. John was also one of the most naturally curious and constantly creative people I ever met, someone who was always taking pictures, and jotting down ideas,"
John Lafia who is credited with coining the name 'Chucky' for the devilish doll also gave the chilling dialogue "Hi am Chucky...Wanna Play?". 'The Blue Iguana', 'Man's Best Friend', 'Freddy's Nightmares' and 'The Rats' are the other films that he has written and directed in a career spanning almost four decades.
