The Supreme Court of India has ordered re-opening of the interrogation into a land grab case against DMK president Karunanidhi’s daughter Selvi.
A case of land-grab was filed at the Poonamalee Court in Chennai against Selvi and her husband Jothimani. The High Court of Madras had earlier order that the trial in the case be held in a time-bound manner. In the meantime, Jothimani and Selvi moved the High Court of Madras requesting that they be absolved from the case.
The High Court of Madras summarily rejected their claim to absolve them from the case. The couple then filed a review petition which was taken up by the Court. Justice Selvam passed an order yesterday releasing the couple from allegations of land-grab.
The Govt. of Tamil Nadu preferred an appeal with the Supreme Court against the verdict of the High Court of Madras. Conducting trial on the appeal, the Supreme Court has ordered re-opening of the interrogation in the case against the duo.
