The Supreme Court has on Thursday dismissed the review petitions filed by Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha and Prashant Bhushan against the Indian government's Rafale deal with France. In its order, the apex court said that the petitions lack merit.
Thus, the 36 Rafale jets' deal has been upheld.
The Congress party and its then President, Rahul Gandhi, had made the deal a big issue ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. As per him, it was a huge scam. It turns out that the scam was a figment of imagination.
The verdict must come as good news for the BJP. "It was Arun Jaitley ji who ripped apart lies of Rahul Gandhi with full facts and master class oratory in Lok-Sabha. Today's Supreme Court Judgement has proved the same," Saurabh Khamar of the BJP's IT Cell said.
It may be noted that, in September, India received the first Rafale jet for use by the Air Forces.
