The Supreme Court on Monday said it will decide the date for the hearing on the Ayodhya land dispute case only in January 2019. The hearing on the pleas challenging the Allahabad High Court's verdict in 2010 has been postponed till winter.
Today's hearing went for all of four minutes. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that an appropriate bench will fix a date for the hearing in January. There is a speculation that the hearing may not happen even in January but could happen only after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
"Just to recall, Kapil Sibal had asked the SC to defer Ayodhya hearing till after 2019 Lok Sabha election," said journalist Kanchan Gupta, suggesting that the Congress' wish to see the hearing postponed could get materialized.
It has to be seen what will be the political fallout of today's SC decision.
