The Karnataka government is seriously contemplating on saving 350 TMC of water from Nethravathi River on the western Ghats to sea.
In the 100 years average data available it is 350 TMC of river water alone from Nethravathi River that goes to sea. It is reaching sea via Bantwal. The serious water scarcity to Bengaluru would be sorted out by diverting 22 TMC of Nethravathi water via pipeline. This project would cost Rs.2000 to Rs.2500 crores says Bengaluru Development Board Minister KJ George addressing the media.
Prof TG Seetharam of IISc has prepared the complete report on this possibility. The same effort is going on in Gujarat state and in countries like Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Netherlands.
According to Prof Seetharam, the procedure gets a nod only when the Dakshin Kannada district in charge minister, people representatives, fishermen and general public approve on this scheme.
The similar type Eththina Hole scheme was not approved by various organizations. Sensing this the concerned officials are first concentrating on getting approval inside.
