In a tragic incident, a groom in Patna lost his life during his own wedding when his friend’s gun misfired. Satyendra Kumar’s wedding was scheduled for Sunday. After reaching the bride's house, the two exchanged garlands. The groom’s friends then got onto the stage and began to dance. One of them took out a firearm to engage in ‘celebratory’ firing with a country-made pistol. As he tried to clear the bullets stuck in the barrel, they hit the groom and his brother by accident.
The two were rushed to a private nursing home and Satyendra Kumar lost his life on Monday morning. His brother is in a critical state. An FIR has been registered by the police. Danapur ASP Ashok Mishra said: “Someone in the procession and the groom’s friend has resorted to the celebratory firing and he is absconding. A case has been registered and statements of the injured were being taken. Forensic team also visited the spot.” The culprit hasn’t been identified yet.
The Bihar Police had banned such firing during celebrations the punishment of which includes cancellation of the gun license. Yet in the past 6 months, 15 lost their lives due to such practices. A vain attempt to prove one’s muscle power and status, the act is injuring and killing people.
