Sasikumar started his cinema career as a director and actor with the 2008 film 'Subramaniapuram'. He has also written and produced the new age gangster movie. The low-budget film received high critical acclaim for its original script, expert direction, screenplay, editing, fresh music, accurate sets and costumes to resurrect Madurai from the 1980s.
Sasikumar's directorial stint faced a setback after his second project 'Eesan'. Ever since then, there have been many requests from fans and stars to Sasikumar to direct a film. The actor has now decided to serve the fans' request and reportedly, he is in plans to direct the controversial 'Kuttra Parambarai'. It is a book written by Vela Ramamoorthy that is set in the 19th century.
The period drama will deal extensively with the tribal community of Kutra Parambarai. A few years ago, there was a rift between directors Bala and Bharathiraja over directing the story. Both the legendary directors shared some harsh words then, which stirred up controversy in Kollywood. But the makers didn't proceed with the project after the serious dispute.
Now, the latest reports claim that Sasikumar has planned to make a film based on the 'Kutra Parambarai' story to mark his directorial return. He will also be playing the lead role and the official announcement is likely to be made soon. However, we have to wait to see how Bala or Bharathiraja reacts to Sasikumar's plan to direct a movie that was touted to be their dream project.
Sasikumar shares a great friendship with both the Tamil cinema legends. Notably, he shared screen space with Bharathiraja in 'Kennedy Club' and he had also played the lead role in Bala's directorial 'Thara Thappattai'. He also worked as an assistant director for director Bala in Sethu (1999). The actor will be next seen in 'Kombu Vatcha Singamda' and 'Pagaivanukku Arulvaai'.
