After the shocking demise of Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha. O.Panneer Selvam popularly known as OPS took charge as the CM in a late night swearing ceremony on December 5, 2016.
Now Tamil Nadu will be getting a new Chief Minister as OPS will be stepping down as CM to elevate V.K.Sasikala the party's General Secretary and the long time aide of Jayalalitha to the top post of the Government.
All the sitting MLAs of the ruling party met in the party headquarters at Royapettah, Chennai today. Sasikala was unanimously elected as the legislative party leader in the meeting that lasted for around 45 minutes. Then OPS rproposed that Sasikala will take over the post.
Sasikala a friend of Jayalalitha for more than 33 years is expected to take oath as CM of Tamil Nadu on.Monday (February 6) or Thursday (February 9) which is the auspicious Thaipoosam day. Party sources say that she will also meet the Governor C.Vidyasagar Rao and stake claim to form the government.
Sasikala will be the third woman CM of Tamil Nadu after V.N.Janaki and Jayalalitha..
