Faced with the biggest challenge of her life as she is to do something to ‘save her hard-earned property for more than the past three decades’, Bangalore’s Parappana Agrahara Prison inmate Sasikala has reportedly sent a few letters through her advocate to be handed over to her relatives and friends back home in Chennai.
Sasikala, former aide of former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa and who has been seen as the ‘culprit’ by party cadres for not taking adequate care of ‘Puratchithalaivi’ during her 75-day hospitalization at Apollo Hospitals last year, is spending uneasy days for the past week ever since the Income Tax Department started raiding premises owned by Sasikala, her relatives/friends in Chennai and other places in the State and Delhi.
The raids, which commenced last year at close to 200 places, continued for five days during when the income-tax sleuths recovered many incriminating documents, hard cash, gold/diamond jewellery, etc. which had so far been not accounted. After watching on television the on-going raids at her relatives/friends’ places, Sasikala also went through various Tamil newspapers to keep herself abreast of the status of raids.
She is reported to have confessed to her sister-in-law and prison-mate Ilavarasi that she had lost ‘everything’ in a matter of days. After inviting her advocate Asokan, she held a long discussion with him after which she reportedly gave a few letters addressed to her relatives/friends to be personally handed over. She is said to have given ‘hints’ to them as to how to reply to various queries by income-tax authorities.
