The disproportionate assets case of '96 finally had its verdict on Tuesday, when justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitava Roy convicted Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran as guilty, sentencing them to a 4 year imprisonment and a fine of INR 10 crores each.
Sasikala's plea to seek more time before surrendering was denied by the apex court.
After slapping her late friend's shrine thrice and vowing to vanquish the opposition party, the ex General Secretary finally surrendered at a special court in Bengaluru.
Accompanying her was co-accused, J. Ilavarasi, her husband Natarajan and a few ADMK leaders. Sasikala will be jailed at the Parappana Agrahara prison for 4 years.
