Sasikala, former aide of the former chief-minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa for many years and who is now cooling her heels at the Parappana Agrahara Prison complex in Bangalore serving a 4-year long prison term in the misappropriation of assets case, has been given a voluminous 2956-page document by the Justice Arumuga Swamy Commission of Iniury probing the mysterious demise of Jayalalithaa in 2016.
It may be recalled that Jayalalithaa was declared ‘dead’ late on the night of 05th December, 2016 by the Apollo Hospital, Chennai where she had spent a 75-day long spell after she was rushed to the hospital on the night of 22nd September. Many AIADMK leaders and DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin had suspected ‘foul play’ in Jayalalithaa’s demise and demanded judicial inquiry into her demise.
The Justice Arumuga Swamy Commission of Inquiry was set up by chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami late last year after he agreed to set up the Commission as a pre-condition to merging with the OPS faction of the AIADMK. The unified AADMK was born soon after, sacking Sasikala and her nephew Dinakaran from the party. Summons were issued to Sasikala to explain Jayalalithaa’s helath condition at the Hospital as she didn’t allow anyone to come close to Jayalalithaa during those days.
Sasikala said that she would respond only if she knew who had complained about her role in the issue. Acceding to her request, the Commission has now delivered 2956 page document to Sasikala directing her to file her affidavit in the case within 15 days of receipt of the document. Interrogation of others by the Commission has been postponed for the time being as the Judge hasn’t been keeping good health.
Jayalalithaa’s cook Sekar, personal car driver Kannan and Jaya TV’s CEO Vivek Jayaraman were to be interrogated this week.
