Actress Surabhi has romanced Aadi Saikumar in 'Sashi', which will hit the screens on March 19. In this interview, she talks about the film. The multi-lingual actress also says that she is ready for glamorous roles.
What made you take up 'Sashi'? What kind of a film can we expect?
When director Srinivas Naidu narrated the story for 3.5 hours, I was thrilled. I found the story interesting because it is a wholesome package. There is a love story, there is so much intensity, there are family values. 'Sashi' is a complete film.
Pawan Kalyan recently unveiled the trailer. What did he say about the film?
Pawan Kalyan garu has released the trailer, he said that the trailer looks really good. He also listened to one of the songs. He enquired me about my films and said that he doesn't usually watch movies.
Going by the trailer of the film, it is clear that you have got a lion's share in the story. Usually, female leads are used as mere props in our movies. Isn't it?
It's true that my character has given me so much scope to perform. My character is relevant to the film. I could also relate to it because, like in the film, I am a single child in real life. My father's character has been played by Rajeev Kanakala garu, who is a little possessive and protective about her. To an extent, my parents too are like that.
What kind of a love story can we expect in the movie?
It's a rugged love story. The character played by Aadi Saikumar has gone through so much in the film. As for my character, it is a mix of fun and emotion. She is seen getting dominant over certain kinds of people. I would say that 'Sashi' has got a mature love story. The emotional graph goes up as the movie inches towards the climax.
The trailer suggests that Aadi has got a strong character.
Yes. He plays a guitar-player who is also a singer. There is a love story that takes off from the point of friendship. The audience are going to love it.
Coming to the film's music, two of the songs are chartbusters. Is music a unique aspect of the movie?
'Okey Oka Lokam' and 'Dheemthana Dheemthana' have clicked with the listeners big-time. The response has been great. I thank the audience.
Is the film all serious? Is there comedy, too?
Of course, the film is not all serious. Vennela Kishore and Viva Harsha are going to tickle the funny bone. The story revolves around friendship and love. Sashi is an emotion.
In your career spanning several years, you have done only seven movies in Telugu. Why so?
It's because I have also been working in Tamil. In the two languages put together, I have done 13 movies. I am all set to debut in Kannada with 'Sakkat'.
There is a perception that you don't want to play glamorous roles. Is it true?
That's not the case. I am all for glamorous roles. In 'Voter', which didn't get a proper release, I played an extra-glamorous role.
