Thalapathy Vijay's 'Sarkar' has not only become one of the biggest grossers in Tamil cinema but has also courted huge controversies with the TN government over scenes criticizing the freebies culture and naming of Varalakshmi Sarathkumar's character. Cases have been filed against director A.R. Murugadoss and there is a demand that he apologizes to the government.
Makkal Neethi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan has come out in support of A.R. Murugadoss stating "Sarkar has been certified by CBFC. Yet Government dares to muffle the right of people to express. This is not democracy. Fascism was defeated before, will be done again.
