Veteran actor Sarathbabu is known for playing the friend and second lead characters with top heroes Rajini, Kamal, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Prabhu,Karthik and others in all South Indian languages during the eighties. During his peak he was in a live-in relationship with Tamil and Telugu actress Rama Prabha but later broke up and married actor Nambiar's daughter Sneha who he also divorced in 2016.

Rama Prabha has stated in Telugu media that Sarathbabu snatched all her properties in Chennai when they broke up in 1988. Reacting to the charges Sarathbabu has stated that he was born with a silver spoon and K. Balachander introduced him as a hero and hence had no need to takeover other's properties as he had lots on his own. He has asserted that he was too young when he had the romantic relationship with Rama Prabha who was several years older and that they never married and broke up after a decade.

Sarathbabu has explained that he sold agricultural properties worth rupees sixty crores now to buy her a house in Chennai and also spent close to two lakhs to renovate her old house. He justifies that whatever he took from the actress was his own properties that he gave her.
