During a recent press meet for his upcoming comedy film A1 (Accused No. 1), Santhanam spoke briefly about the movie and controversies surrounding it.

When the media questioned him about a particular scene in the teaser involving the female lead character, who is a Brahmin, eating a half-boiled egg to "prove her love" for him, Santhanam said that it was a cheap publicity stunt by the media and jobless people who had nothing better to do, to make a huge deal out of it. He added that humour had to be taken the way it is meant to be taken and that unless it really hurt people's sentiments, there is no need for him to apologize for the same.

A1 is directed by "Nalaiya Iyakkunar" Johnson and produced by S. Raj Narayanan. The film, that stars Santhanam and Tara Alisha Berry in the lead roles, has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
