Sankranthi ignores comedians

Telugu films have a USP - that of comedy. This season, except for Express Raja, no film banked on any comedian to be the saving grace. Given this, comedians have been understandably overshadowed by two superstars when it comes to walking away with all the honours - NTR and Nagarjuna for their first-rate performance in Nannaku Prematho and Soggade Chinni Nayana, respectively.

However, a few comedians have made their mark. Here they are in the order of the importance for their respective films.

Sapthagiri for Express Raja

Sapthagiri is the comedian of the season. His role in the second half lends life to the proceedings and his comic timing has had the audiences in splits. He stands at No. 1 for his role of a victim of the hero after he mistakenly burns the hero's seventy five thousands.

Prabhas Seenu, Shakalaka Shankar, Urvashi, and Supreet for Express Raja

Urvashi playing a comedy villain with Vasantha Kokila syndrome is a treat to watch. Prabhas Seenu as the hero's friend has a full-fledged role, although he is overshadowed by Sapthagiri and Shakalaka Shankar in the second half. Supreet too entertains as the funny baddie out to chase the missing dog. Brahmaji is a bit of disappointment, though.

Brahmanandam for Soggade Chinni Nayana

With Nag and Ramya Krishna taking upon themselves to dole out light-veined entertainment for most part, any comedian could have not played any role other than that of a second fiddle. Brahmanandam, who plays a fake baba, manages to deliver a few laughs and yes, shaking the leg for 'Bangaru kodi petta..' and 'Lungi dance..' has the audiences root for him.

Posani Krishna Murali and Nasser for Dictator

Dictator has a separate comedy track involving Hema and Prithvi Raj, but neither manage to make an impact. Instead, it is Posani and Nasser who deliver the laughs with their comic timing as Balakrishna's personal assitant and Anjali's father, respectively.
