Film buffs of the eighties will definitely remember Shankar and Menaka, the most popular filmy pair of the eighties. Shankar who debuted with the Fazil hit ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’ made it big in Kollywood also with the movie ‘Oru Thalai Raagam’.

Menake was the reigning heroine of the time with many art house and popular Priyadarshan films to her credit. And both of these actors made a good pair in many hit films of the decade. Surprisingly, when Menake walked down the limelight with her marriage with producer Suresh Kumar, Shankar also found it difficult to survive in the field and was found out of the business within an year of dull performances of his movies.

Shankar then focused on his business endeavors and lived a silent life, till recently when he was called for some tele serials. Menaka also made a return to popularity with her few mega serials. Any how, the latest news is that Shankar and Menaka will be playing the prominent pair in the new movie ‘Annarakkannanum Thannalayathyu’, which will start its shooting by the third week of this month.

Directed and scripted by Prakashan, the movie will also feature Kalabhavan Mani, Thilakan, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Salimkumar, Jagadheesh, Mala, Tinitom, Jaffer Idukki and Bindu Panikkar. Let us wait for a couple of months more, to see how these old pair fare in the new screen, after two decades.
