After Mirabai, now it’s Sanjita Chanu delivering India its second gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth games in Australia. Not only that, she has surprised one and all by winning the event in style by creating commonwealth record.
Participating in the Women’s 53 kg weightlifting event, the 24 year old lifter from Manipur broke existing CWG records by lifting 84 kg in the snatch category, 108 kg in the clean and jerk to earn a total of 192 kg.
Loa Dika Toua of Papa New Guinea and Canada’s Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet clinched the silver and the bronze medals respectively. It is worth mentioning here that eminent cricketer Virendar Sehwah took to his social page to express his elation at Sanjita’s achievement.
Here’s his tweet below:
Bhartiya Naari Sab par Bhaari. One more Gold. Congratulations #SanjitaChanu for winning our second gold in #GC2018Weightlifting in the women's 53kg category. #CWG2018
