Sanjay Dutt’s political ambitions has come tumbling down as the Supreme Court has given out its verdict.

The law of the land has conveyed that the actor cannot contest the Lok Sabha Polls.

Even though sentenced to six years in Jail under the arms act by an anti-terror court, Sanjay had high hopes on getting a favourable verdict from the Supreme Court.

He had requested the court to suspend his conviction in the criminal case of keeping illegal arms in the days prior to the multiple bomb blasts at Mumbai in 1993.

But the bench headed by Chief Justice K.G.Balakrishan and comprising of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice R.M.Lodha said that they cannot put down a stay on the six year jail term as Sanjay’s plea was not strong enough.

According to the laws meant for the elections, a citizen proved guilty for a criminal offence and given a jail term for more than two years cannot contest the elections.

Sanjay Dutt who had approached the court with his appeal at the beginning of March had been finalised as Samajwadi Party’s candidate from Lucknow.
