The 1996 World Cup saw the emergence of the explosive batsman Sanath Jayasurya who tore apart the formidable bowling attacks all over the world and pushed many a ball wizard to retirement. A news started doing the rounds that Sanath died in a car accident in Toronto Canada. Thousands of fans and celebrities including Ravichandran Ashwin were worried stating "Is the news on Sanath Jayasuriya true?? I got a news update on what's app but see nothing here on Twitter".

Sanath Jaysurya himself clarified that the news is fake stating "Please disregard fake news by malicious websites regarding my health and well being. I am in Srilanka and have not visited Canada recently. Please avoid sharing fake news". R. Ashwin too breathed a sigh of relief with "Ok it seems to be fake news.".
