Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's critically acclaimed movie 'Sexy Durga', the FIRST Indian movie to win the TIGER award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2017, is gaining more accolades. 'Sexy Durga' won the coveted Golden Apricot award at the 2017 Yerevan International Film Festival for best film.
The movie which has no big names involved has been winning acclaim on the fest circuit. Touted to be a thrilling social satire, Sexy Durga conveys through a fictionalized true story on how the community dishonours a woman when she is sexually abused, sensationalizing the incident and the other outrages. Rajasri Deshpande of Angry Indian Goddesses- fame plays the title role in the movie.
Produced under the banner of Nivi Art Movies, the movie also stars Vishnu Vedh, Sujeesh K. S, Kannan Nair, Arun Sol, Baiju Neeto, Sujith Koyikal, Vishnujith and Bilas Nair in important roles. The movie is yet to be released in theatres as the right wing groups had sent death threats to the director over the title, which, they said, insults Goddess Durga.
