Samsara
Since time immortal there have been innumerous debates about spirituality and the world we live in! Which is the REAL world? Which is the RIGHT world? Which is the CHOSEN world? These are just some of the questions that come to mind when one aims to experience spirituality!
Another glaring question that never fails to come to mind is: "What is more important: satisfying one thousand desires or conquering just one?"
Tashi [Shawn Ku] was a young man who finally got an answer to this question in his journey of life. He was the man who aspired to find spiritual enlightenment. And for this, he went into solitary meditation in a remote hermitage based in Ladakh, Himalayas!
After having meditated for around 3 years, he reaches his ancient monastery and starts regaining his lost strength. Most of the men in his place would have been thrilled to witness some level of spiritualism in his life. He was thrilled too and had his life dedicated to spirituality. But then something different happened to him. Something strange that surprised him and also made him question himself!
He experienced a strong sexual awakening in him that was hardly anticipated or expected!
It may have been possible for him to return to the world of meditation and regain his hold over himself but matters only became further difficult for him as he came across Pema [Chirsty Chung], a beautiful young woman. The two met in a village where Tashi had gone to perform a harvest blessing and it was simply love at first sight.
It was a difficult choice for Tashi to make.
On one hand he had his spiritual inclinations and teachings while on the other hand he had the LOVE of his life Tashi who made him question the very inclinations and teachings. On one hand he had his monetary where he had lived since the age of five while on the other he had an entire SAMSARA, THE WORLD, spread out for him.
It was decision time for Tashi. And a realization beckoned! Tashi found out that in order to give up the world, it was first required to experience its existence.
He quit the monastery and married Pema!
Along with Pema he discovered the power of sexual union and how togetherness meant joys and sorrows alternatively. Years passed by and they had a son whom they named Karma [Tenzin Tashi].
Meanwhile inspite of being a 'common woman' rather than someone who had lived her life for spirituality, Pema came across as a person who had a spiritual side to her. Now this was something that never failed to surprise and challenge Tashi!
A beautiful spiritual love story shot entirely in Ladakh, 'SAMSARA' is one of those rare films in the world to have been shot at an average altitude of 15000 feet. Written and directed by Pan Nalin, the film is gearing up for its release in India soon.
