Samantha's recently released action-thriller film Yashoda has landed in legal trouble. The action thriller, directed by Hari and Harish, is facing a roadblock by Hyderabad Civil court. According to reports, The EVA IVF Hospital has taken legal action against Yashoda for showing their hospital in a negative light.
Dr Mohan Kumar, the owner of Eva IVF Hospital, has named the directors and producers of the film, too, for allegedly "misusing the name and damaging the reputation of the hospital". The court has issued notices seeking their replies, according to reports. The Hyderabad court responded to the case and decided in the hospital’s favour by postponing the film’s OTT release. Reportedly, till December 19, Yashoda will not be able to release on OTT platforms.
The story revolves around Samantha Prabhu, who becomes a surrogate mother for money to fund her sister's surgery. She is taken to a hospital that happens to be named 'Eva', where she discovers that several other women there are becoming surrogates as they are poor and need money like she does, as per the film's plot. Commercial surrogacy is banned in India, and the film revolves around a racket that illegally "rents out wombs"
The film stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Unni Mukandan, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada and Priyanka Sharma in pivotal roles, along with others. Yashoda' was released in theatres on November 11 in five languages: Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
