Salman's 'Ready' aims at going past Aamir's 'Ghajini'

'Ready' is now the first blockbuster of 2011 and second in a row for Salman Khan after 'Dabangg' (2010). The film has netted close to 70 crores in it's first week itself, hence not just sealing it's eventual fate at the box office but also shutting the mouth of detractors who were claiming (and hoping) that the film would crash after the first weekend.
The film has been accepted whole heartedly by the 'aam junta' and how. There are already reports of repeat viewing for the film which has ensured that the second weekend sees superb business as well. Also it has proven once again that those select few critics who scoff at commercial cinema need a long break and venture into real world because they are just not on the same page as the paying public. It is okay to praise an offbeat film to the sky but foolhardy to let your own sensibilities come into play while discounting the reach of commercial cinema.
This can be seen from the way this Anees Bazmee directed film has been accepted whole heartedly by the entire nation. Also, it has established all over again that 'masala' films are not going anywhere. So while experimental cinema will continue to be made, it would be only on smaller budget for some more time to come with big bucks being reserved for the mainstream commercial entertainers.
As things stand today, 'Ready' is all set to cross the 100 crores mark in three weekends flat. The immediate next target is 108 crores total of 'Golmaal 3' which is all set to be quashed. However it has to be seen whether 'Ready' would be able to cross the 115 crores milestone set by 'Ghajini'. If that indeed happens, Salman would have two of his films in Top-3 all time blockbusters after '3 Idiots' (200 crores) and 'Dabangg' (140 crores).
As for 'A Strange Love Story', the film disappeared without a trace with collections being near to negligible collections. Rest assured, there won't be any takers for the film on satellite or home video either.
