Director Sooraj Barjatya, who is known for making family dramas with a hefty cast, is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Uunchai'. 'Uunchai' focuses on three friends in their sixties (played by Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher) who embark on an adventurous trek and during a promotional event for the same, Sooraj shared that superstar Salman Khan also wanted to be a part of this project.
Recalling the event and sharing why he turned Salman down, Barjatya said, "When I was making this, Salman asked me, ‘Sooraj what are you making?’ then, ‘Why are you going to the hills?’ Then he also told me, ‘I can do this film!’ I said no! Because we all know he can climb the mountains. But I needed people who can look as if they can’t."
Usually Sooraj Barjatya's films feature a lead character named Prem and they often feature grand wedding or festival scenes but with 'Uunchai', the filmmaker broke all there tropes associated with him. He says, "In this film, maine sab bandhan todd diye hai. There once was a charm that if you name (a character) Prem, the film will work. But I’ve let go of that. In the pandemic, everything was slipping away, so there was no point holding onto anything."
Also starring Danny Denzongpa, Parineeti Chopra and Neena Gupta, 'Uunchai' is set to release on 11th of November.
