Bollywood stars which includes Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Ranveer Singh, Prabhu Deva amongst others have been sued by an Indian-American promoter - The Vibrant Media Group, which alleged that the stars had refused to perform at a concert in the US despite being paid for their performances in advance.
Besides the actors, the singers like Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Usha Mangeshkar were also sued. The Vibrant Media Group in its lawsuit against the stars and their agents Matrix India Entertainment Consultants Private Limited and Yashraj Films Private Limited alleged “breach of contract”.
According to a complaint by the Vibrant Media Group, in 2013 the firm had paid the artists to perform live at a concert ‘'Celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema' that was supposed to be held on September 1, 2013 in Chicago.
The show that had to be cancelled as Salman was unable to leave India due to the legal troubles in Rajasthan, had even agreed to postpone or reschedule the event according to the superstar’s availability.
According to the lawsuit, the group had recently come to know that these artists who had been sued, agreed to perform with another promoter , instead of keeping thier promises or even offering to return their deposits. The group who had incurred at least $1 million loss said, “All calls to Mr Khan, his agents, and other artists, for the return of the funds have gone unanswered.”
According to the complaint, Vibrant Media had paid more than $200,000 to Salman, Katrina was paid $40,000 and Sonakshi $36,000. None of these funds have been returned till date.
