A Maharashtra court Thursday exempted actor Salman Khan from appearing in person in a hit-and-run case two years ago.

The court deferred the trial to Sep 10 as case papers had not yet reached it from the sessions court.

Counsel for Salman, Dipesh Mehta, pleaded for the star to be exempted from appearing in the court saying that he was busy shooting for a film.

Salman is charged with ramming his vehicle into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others on Sep 28, 2002.

Police alleged Salman was drunk at the time of the mishap.
