Son of renowned Salim Khan (of the Salim-Javed team), Salman Khan has disclosed which of his father's classic films he would most like to replicate. The disclosure came during a roundtable event endorsing the docuseries "Angry Young Men", which follows the emergence of the well-known writing team. The show has received compliments for its thorough dive into Salim and Javed Akhtar's brilliant careers and sentimental look back at Bollywood's heyday.
Under Farah Khan, Salman joined Salim, Javed, Zoya Akhtar, and series director Namrata Rao in a discussion. Farah asked Salman during the Q&A which of his father's flicks he would recreate. Salman called two masterpieces right away: "Sholay" and "Deewaar". When asked which character he would most like to perform, Salman jokingly said he could play any—Veeru (originally performed by Dharmendra), Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), or even the infamous Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). "I can play both," Salman assuredly said.
Salim and Javed added that many performers expressed interest in portraying Gabbar Singh in "Sholay". "Neither Sanjeev Kumar nor Amitabh Bachchan told Ramesh Sippy they wanted to play Gabbar," they said.
Streaming on Prime Video, the "Angry Young Men" series gets its namesake from the 1970s archetype Salim-Javed developed, a character type that shot Amitabh Bachchan to superstardom. Namrata Rao makes her directing debut on the three-part docuseries produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby Films.
