Veteran actress-singer Salma Agha's daughter Zara Khan recently registered a complaint with the police after an anonymous handle on Instagram sent her rape and death threats.
A 23-year-old female MBA student from Hyderabad has been held by officials at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai. The woman allegedly created a fake account on Instagram and sent threatening messages to Zara Khan from October 23 to November 3, the reasons for which are currently unknown. "The accused sent vulgar messages and murder threats on Instagram. A duplicate Instagram account was made by the accused. We wrote a letter to Instagram who helped us. The officer who had gone to give the notice found that she was not responding properly. She was not ready to come only. Medical treatment is yet to be done, but she looked mentally disturbed. She didn't react like a normal person," a senior inspector from the Oshiwara police station informed a news agency.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 354 (a), 354(b), 509, 506 and Information Technology Act 67(a) of Indian Penal Code. "Before she could reveal any other crucial information, we learnt that the woman is mentally unstable, which is why we issued a notice under Section 41(A) of the CRPC, which states that appearance before a police officer," the inspector added.
