Mithun Chakraborty is the man who embodied the 80s western culture of disco in Bollywood. His 1982 film 'Disco Dancer' is now being adapted into a play. Babbar Subhash, the director of the original reveals that he has given the screenplay rights to the music director duo Salim- Sulaiman. He said, "I have given the screenplay rights of the film to Salim-Sulaiman and they are collaborating with Sa Re Ga Ma on it."
The news was also confirmed by Salim Merchant, who added, "But due to the lockdown, rehearsals are on hold once everything opens up and the government gives us permission we will restart work on it." There has been no information about the casting decisions as of now but Salim assures that cast will be star studded.
'Disco Dancer' follows the story of a street dancer who rises to become a popular dancer and performer. The film was a smash hit in India as well as Russia. Subhash recalls, "I was overwhelmed with the response it got. Although the music is with Sa Re Ga Ma and I have no idea which songs will be used from the film, I would want them to keep 'Jimmy Jimmy' and 'I Am A Disco Dancer' in the musical as they are integral to the story."
