The Chennai high court has dismissed the Tamil Nadu government order pertaining to the Salem - Chennai 8 way road. The court has quashed the order of the government for the acquisition of lands for the express greenway project, following numerous protests all over the state against the project.
Farmers, political leaders, land owners and many others had been opposing the move of the government to capture lands, and more than 50 people had filed cases opposing the acquisition of lands in Chennai High court. The verdict was pronounced in this case by the court, and the court dismissed the order for acquisition of lands for the project.
The TN government had planned to acquire more than 1900 acre lands for the 10000 crore worth project, and this order from the court has come across as a relief for the farmers who are celebrating the verdict. The court also ordered the government to restore the changes made in the revenue documents within 8 weeks, and directed the government to release a new Government order for the cancellation of the project.
