Saivam

Rooster fight is a tradition in some parts of our state. There have been a number of films that touched upon this, while there was a National Award winner that was made on the very concept. But it is not only in fights and platter that we love roosters; the relationship goes far beyond - here, in an emotional bonding between a kid and her pet.

Soon after 'Thalaivaa', director Vijay declared that he will be rolling out a movie with the cute little sensation Sara, of 'Deiva Thirumagal', fame in the lead. There were rumours that Vikram will be a part of the crew and some suggested that he was replaced by Arya. But what is true is that the cast has Sara playing the role of prominence, while her pet rooster weaves the thread of story.

'Saivam' went on the floors last year, and is almost entirely shot in Karaikudi. When the crew's first look poster was out in mid November last, it was accompanied by the news that most part of the crew is new talent to K-town. Nassar plays a crucial role in the film, taking every bit of the story to such earnest that he, with the help of Pattanam Rasheed, got a bald look, by shaving a portion of his hair. Apart from Nassar and Sara, the remaining cast is fairly new, but for a few character artistes. Interestingly, Nassar's son Luthfudeen debuts with screen name Basha, in this movie.

The film has music by GV Prakash Kumar, and the album was released by Sony two months back. What took everybody's curiosity to the album was the track 'Azhagu' released in its making version, edited as a teaser. The song is sung by Utthara Krishnan, Unni Krishnan's daughter, in her all-innocent voice. This, along with the four other tracks, including an instrumental version of 'Azhagu', has fared well in the music market since its launch. The entire film wrapped up shooting in under forty days, for a light-hearted entertainer. As reported by the director, 'Saivam' is a movie on family traditions, and he believes that it will kindle some of the lost traditions, in the movie, which is hitting the screens this weekend.
