Sai Pallavi is now a bigger star than she ever was. Her debut Malayalam-Tamil film ('Premam') was a blockbuster, and her debut Telugu film too is one.
She has won many hearts by being a perfectionist in the case of 'Fidaa'. "I participated in workshops. I didn't do it even for my Malayalam films. Since dialogues are very important for 'Fidaa', we had healthy deliberations," she says.
Ask her about striking it with cuss words and pat comes the reply, "I am a soft-type girl in real life. I hardly use cuss words. But for this movie, I just followed the director's instructions." Is she applying those mildly cussed words she used in 'Fidaa' in real life? "No, but I am often using the phrase 'Pukkatlo nenem theesukonu', of late," she says.
How did she manage to get the Telangana slang so right? "My director and the direction department made me learn the slang. They told me that I learned it quite fast. Not just the slang, I also got to learn to ride a tractor. It was very tough."
She being a good dancer, does Pallavi think 'Fidaa' didn't give her enough scope to showcase the talent? "What all songs were required, Kammula garu had them all. There is a Bathukamma festival song, which will be added later," she ponders.
About her co-star Varun Tej, she says, "I had to wear high heels. My height is 5.4, while he is 6.4. Everybody is liking our pair. He is a professional and calm-going guy."
Wasn't she supposed to do the Telugu version of 'Premam'? "Nobody approached me with the offer. In any case, I never wanted to repeat it in any other language. If someone were to approach me with Bhanumathi's role in a remake, I may not say yes immediately," she answers.
Is Sai Pallavi against remakes? "I am not against remakes. What I feel is that they may not excite me much."
"I made it a rule to do just one movie because I can then focus in a better way. But I am doing two films right now - one in Telugu, the other one in Tamil," she says.
Talking about her favourite heroes, she says, "Since I am a Tamil girl, Rajinikanth sir and Kamal Haasan sir are my favourites. Since the time I watched 'Kaakaa Kaakaa', I have started to like Suriya as well."
How about medicine? "I was sent off to study in Georgia to keep me from movies. When I outgrow this film career, I will become a practicing doctor. I want to specialize in Cardiology."
Saying that she is not glam-conscious and that she holds her pimples close to her, the 'Premam' actress avers that she will feel insecure if she is asked to reprise herself in other languages.
Now that 'Fidaa' is a super hit, her stamina has only increased in Telugu. She is looking forward to the release of 'MCA' in December. "I am playing a middle-class girl in the movie," the 'middle-class ammayi' says.
